Overview

Rhode Island Energy (RIE) is seeking experienced professionals to provide (EE) energy efficiency sales and manage day to day customer relationships with our Large Commercial & Industrial customers.

Our goal is to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and to effectively deliver mutually beneficial energy solutions and services, including energy efficiency, demand response and future RIE products and services. This position is designed to be the catalyst driving energy efficiency solutions offerings and delivering savings to Rhode Island Energy’s gas and electric savings goals. The successful candidate would also need to effectively respond to other business needs of customers and essentially serve as the customer advocate & liaison to other departments within the company.

As part of our team, you will also be responsible for researching accounts, developing strategic account plans, conducting all EE sales activities, and delivering on assigned sales targets. This includes maintaining a strong sales funnel, achieving high appointment and close rates. In addition, you will act as the first point of contact representing Rhode Island Energy to customers providing information about our available services and be at the forefront of communicating market developments in the energy industry in order to ensure the optimization of best practices for our customers and for Rhode Island Energy.

Responsibilities

  • Develop/maintain relationships with key Energy Decision Makers
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Customers within the assigned segment(s)
  • Promote and sell energy efficiency programs and new products and services to meet Energy Efficiency and other sales goals within budget
  • Develop expertise with Rhode Island Energy’s Energy Efficiency Programs and advise customers and trade professionals regarding these programs
  • Become proficient with company customer relationship and trade ally management tools to:
    • Maintain customer & trade ally contact information and account hierarchy
    • Track and progress projects through the sales pipeline
    • Manage the resolution of customer issues
  • Facilitate strong internal relationships with Marketing, Sales Support, Operations, Managed Account Services, Program Strategy, Program Execution, and other Company departments
  • Coordinate a Company team response to satisfy customer needs, empowered to commit resources and resolve conflicts in the best interests of the customer and the Company
  • Develop and execute strategic sales plans, in line with Rhode Island Energy’s overall business objectives, in order to increase opportunities with new and existing customers
  • Generate sales opportunities and appointments for the large customer markets at or above assigned targets
  • Manage the day-to-day relationships with customers, other industry contacts, and fellow sales representatives in order to understand and deliver appropriate solutions, in line with Rhode Island Energy policies and processes
  • Work effectively with deal teams, project expediters and other business units in order to assist Rhode Island Energy in the achievement of sales goals and other initiatives
  • Take on other responsibilities as required including but not limited to: on-call duties, storm restoration efforts, outage coordination and support for customer service on a 24/7 basis, with the handling of elevated customer and stakeholder complaints
  • Meet and uphold all corporate environmental, ethical and safety requirements and goals

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications or other related discipline or equivalent work experience is preferred
  • Typically requires a minimum of 3-6 years of experience in a sales or account management role
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to apply consultation procedures and negotiation skills
  • Possesses a general understanding of Rhode Island Energy’s business from a commercial perspective and familiarity with RI Energy (C&I) Commercial & Industrial tariff
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive sales / outreach management, including planning, project implementation, budget management and client / account management
  • Demonstrates a consistent approach in dealing with people and taking personal responsibility for addressing problems and concerns
  • Experience in fact-finding including knowledge and understanding of where to find and how to present relevant information. Demonstrates initiative and resourcefulness and has the ability to investigate the situation beyond routine questioning
  • Makes self fully available for the customer and/or channel partner. Demonstrates an energetic and enthusiastic manner and the ability to add value to the customer.
  • Demonstrates the ability to interpret information and analyze relationships among several parts of a problem or situation in order to clearly articulate the findings and anticipates obstacles and thinks ahead about next steps
